What is a Depeg?

A depeg is a material deviation from a stablecoin's target peg. In SOG, a depeg is an event, not a status label by itself.

SOG handling
Minor movementSmall or short-lived market movements are usually not recorded as standalone events.
Notable depegA depeg can be recorded when it is material, sustained, historically relevant, or supported by public sources.
Major depegA major depeg should include context such as trigger, recovery, source list, duration if supportable, and known unknowns.
CollapseA collapse is a severe lifecycle outcome. It requires stronger source support than a normal market deviation.
important distinction
Recovered depegA recovered depeg does not automatically make the stablecoin failed. USDC's March 2023 event is treated this way.
Failed statusFailed status is used only when the lifecycle and evidence support that outcome, such as UST after the May 2022 collapse.
No live price feedSOG does not try to be a live peg monitor. Historical price values should be source-specific when used.
