What is a Depeg?
A depeg is a material deviation from a stablecoin's target peg. In SOG, a depeg is an event, not a status label by itself.
| Minor movement | Small or short-lived market movements are usually not recorded as standalone events. |
|---|---|
| Notable depeg | A depeg can be recorded when it is material, sustained, historically relevant, or supported by public sources. |
| Major depeg | A major depeg should include context such as trigger, recovery, source list, duration if supportable, and known unknowns. |
| Collapse | A collapse is a severe lifecycle outcome. It requires stronger source support than a normal market deviation. |
| Recovered depeg | A recovered depeg does not automatically make the stablecoin failed. USDC's March 2023 event is treated this way. |
|---|---|
| Failed status | Failed status is used only when the lifecycle and evidence support that outcome, such as UST after the May 2022 collapse. |
| No live price feed | SOG does not try to be a live peg monitor. Historical price values should be source-specific when used. |
